What Las Vegas does to appliances
Heat and refrigerators
In summer, a refrigerator's condenser has to dump heat into a kitchen that may be warmer than usual and into a garage that can be much hotter. Condenser fans, start components and compressors all work harder. We see a rise in "fridge not cold enough" calls every June. If a Frigidaire refrigerator struggles only during the hottest weeks, check that the condenser coil is clean and that the refrigerator has the clearance its installation instructions call for.
Dust and lint
Fine desert dust builds up on condenser coils, and long dryer vent runs in two-story homes collect lint. Both reduce airflow and make appliances run hot. Many of our dryer repairs — blown thermal fuses especially — trace back to a restricted vent.
Hard water
Las Vegas water is hard, and scale gradually affects anything that handles water: ice makers and refrigerator water valves, dishwasher spray arms and fill valves, and washer inlet screens and dispensers.
