Common Frigidaire front load washer problems
Symptom
Most common causes
Water left in the drum, drain error
Clogged pump filter or drain hose, failed drain pump
Won't spin or spins slowly
Unbalanced load, drain problem, motor or motor control, worn belt (belt-drive models)
Door won't lock, cycle won't start
Door lock assembly, door strike, control
Door stays locked after the cycle
Water still in the drum, lock assembly, control
Leaking from the front
Door boot (bellows) seal, detergent overflow, dispenser
Loud roar or grinding during spin
Worn tub bearings, foreign object between tub and drum
Banging or walking
Unlevel feet, shipping bolts left in, worn shock absorbers
Musty odor
Residue in the door boot and drain path
Washer won't drain
A front-load washer that stops with water in the drum almost always has a drain-path problem. Checks you can safely do first:
Look at the drain hose behind the washer. It should not be kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe.
Check the pump filter if your model has an access door at the lower front. Put towels down and use a shallow pan; it releases water. Coins, hair ties and small socks are the usual finds.
Run a drain and spin cycle and listen. A hum with no water moving suggests a jammed or failed pump.
If the filter is clear and the hose is fine, the drain pump is the next suspect. On some models the pump has no user-accessible filter, and reaching it requires removing panels — that's a technician's job.
Won't spin, or the door won't unlock
Front-loaders won't spin if they can't drain, can't confirm the door is locked, or detect an unbalanced load. Bulky single items — a bath mat, a comforter — are a common trigger. If a normal mixed load still won't spin, we test the door lock circuit, the drain, the motor and its control.
Leaks
Front-loader leaks usually come from the door boot seal (torn, or holding debris that breaks the seal), the detergent dispenser, a loose drain hose, or too much detergent producing suds that escape. High-efficiency (HE) detergent in the right amount matters more than most people think.
Bearing noise: repair or replace?
A roar that gets louder as spin speed rises usually means the tub bearings are failing, often after water has been seeping past the seal for a while. On many front-loaders, bearings are not a simple part swap — the tub has to come apart, and on some designs the rear tub is replaced as an assembly with new bearings and seal. That makes it one of the most labor-intensive washer repairs. We give you the price and our honest recommendation before starting.
Las Vegas hard water and your washer
Valley water is hard. Over time, mineral scale builds up on inlet valve screens, in the dispenser and on heating parts, and it can make detergent work less effectively. Using the right amount of HE detergent and running a cleaning cycle regularly helps. If fill times are getting longer, the inlet valve screens are worth checking.

Typical front load washer repairs
Typical Repair Example
Water left in the drum after the cycle
Frigidaire front-load washer
Symptom
Cycle stopped with standing water in the drum and a drain error on the display.
Diagnostic finding
The drain path was checked from the drum to the standpipe. The drain hose was clear, but the pump motor hummed without moving water; debris had damaged the impeller.
Repair performed
Replaced the drain pump and cleared the pump housing and hose.
Parts involved
Drain pump
Result
Washer drained and spun normally through a full test cycle.
Approximate total $335
Typical Repair Example
Washer won't start — door won't lock
Frigidaire Gallery front-load washer
Symptom
Cycle would not begin; the door lock light flashed and the machine eventually showed a door error.
Diagnostic finding
The control was sending the lock signal, but the lock assembly did not engage and its switch did not report locked. The door strike and hinge alignment were fine.
Repair performed
Replaced the door lock assembly.
Parts involved
Door lock / latch assembly
Result
Door locked and unlocked correctly; washer completed a full cycle.
Approximate total $295
Typical Repair Example
Roaring noise during spin
Frigidaire front-load washer, about four years old
Symptom
Loud rumbling that got worse as spin speed increased; the drum felt rough when turned by hand.
Diagnostic finding
Worn tub bearings with water seepage at the rear of the tub. Suspension and motor were in good shape, so the repair was worth discussing given the washer's age.
Repair performed
Customer approved the repair after reviewing the price against replacement. Replaced the rear tub with new bearings and seal.
Parts involved
Rear tub with bearings and seal
Result
Quiet spin and no leaks at the end of testing.
Approximate total $820

Front-loaders seal tightly, so moisture and detergent residue stay inside. Leave the door and dispenser open between loads, wipe the door boot, use HE detergent in the recommended amount, and run the cleaning cycle monthly. A persistent smell after that can mean a drain-path problem that leaves water behind.
Is it safe to open the pump filter myself?
Yes, if your model has a user-accessible filter behind a small door at the lower front. Unplug the washer first, expect water to come out, and close the filter securely afterward. If there's no access door, leave the pump to a technician.
How long does a front load washer repair take?
Most repairs, like drain pumps and door locks, take about an hour or two. Bearing and tub work takes much longer and is usually scheduled separately once parts are on hand.
Is it worth fixing a front load washer with bad bearings?
It depends on the age and condition of the washer. On a newer washer in good shape it can be worth it; on an older one, the cost often approaches replacement. We'll lay out both options.
Do you install washers or move them for other trades?
We focus on repair. Pulling the washer out, disconnecting and reconnecting it as part of a repair is included in the repair labor.
