Agitator vs. impeller: why it matters
Frigidaire top-loaders come in two styles. Agitator models have a center post that moves the clothes. Impeller (low-profile) models use a low disc in the tub floor and rely on the clothes rubbing against each other, which means they're more sensitive to how the tub is loaded. An impeller washer that "won't wash" is sometimes simply overloaded or loaded unevenly — something worth trying before you call.
Lid lock problems
Modern top-loaders lock the lid during spin and, on many models, during agitation. If the lock can't confirm a locked lid, the washer stops and shows an error. We check the lock assembly, the strike on the lid, the hinge alignment and the control signal. A worn lid hinge can keep the strike from reaching the lock even when the lock itself is fine.
Slow fill and hard water
In Las Vegas, slow filling is often a mineral problem. The inlet valve has small screens at the hose connections that catch scale and sediment. Checks you can do: make sure both faucets are fully open, and look for kinks in the hoses. If the hoses and faucets are fine and the fill is still slow, the screens or the valve itself need attention.
Off-balance banging
Most banging comes from one-sided loads — a single heavy blanket, or towels all on one side. If balanced loads still bang, check that the washer sits level with all four feet firmly on the floor. Persistent banging on a level washer with balanced loads usually means worn suspension rods, which let the tub swing into the cabinet.

Typical top load washer repairs
Typical Repair Example
Filled with water, then stopped
Frigidaire top-load washer
Symptom
Washer filled, then sat without agitating and flashed a lid error.

The lid switch/lock assembly was not confirming a locked lid to the control, even with the lid fully closed.
Repair performed
Replaced the lid lock assembly and checked the lid hinge and strike alignment.
Parts involved
Lid lock assembly

Approximate total $285
Typical Repair Example
Very slow fill
Frigidaire top-load washer

Repair performed
Replaced the water inlet valve and flushed the supply hoses.
Parts involved
Water inlet valve
Result
Normal fill time and correct wash temperatures.
Approximate total $275
Typical Repair Example
Banging and walking during spin
Frigidaire top-load washer

Diagnostic finding
The washer was level, but the suspension rods had lost their damping and the tub was hitting the cabinet.
Repair performed
Replaced the full set of suspension rods.
Parts involved
Suspension rods (set)
Result
Stable, quiet spin through a full test load.
Approximate total $295

Why does my Frigidaire top load washer fill and then stop?
Most often the washer can't confirm that the lid is locked, so it won't start agitating or spinning. A worn lid lock, a misaligned lid strike or hinge, or a control problem can cause it. A technician tests the lock circuit to find which.
Can I use my washer if it's leaking?
It's best not to. Turn off the water supply and unplug the washer until the leak is found. Leaks from supply hoses can get worse quickly.
How often should I replace the fill hoses?
Rubber fill hoses age and can burst. Inspect them yearly, and consider braided stainless hoses if yours are older or show bulges or cracks.
Is it worth repairing a top load washer?
Lid locks, inlet valves, pumps and suspension rods are almost always worth repairing. Drive or transmission work on an older washer is a closer call, and we'll walk you through both options.
