Frigidaire electric and gas dryers

Frigidaire Dryer Repair

We repair Frigidaire electric and gas dryers that won't heat, take too long to dry, won't start or tumble, or squeal and thump — at your home in Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City. We also look for the cause, because a dryer that keeps blowing fuses usually has a venting problem behind it.

Dryer runs but doesn't heat

The most common dryer call we get. The causes differ between electric and gas models:

Electric dryersGas dryers
Heating element openIgniter not glowing
Thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat openIgniter glows but gas valve coils don't open the valve
Cycling thermostat or sensorFlame sensor (radiant sensor)
Only one leg of 240 V power reaching the dryer — tripped double breakerThermal fuse or high-limit thermostat
Control or timerGas supply valve closed after moving the dryer

Takes too long to dry

Nine times out of ten, a slow dryer is an airflow problem, not a heating problem:

  • Lint screen and its housing packed with lint
  • A crushed or kinked foil transition hose behind the dryer
  • A long vent run to the roof or a far wall, partly clogged with lint — common in two-story valley homes
  • An exterior vent hood that's stuck or blocked by a bird's nest

Restricted airflow also overheats the dryer, which is exactly what blows thermal fuses. That's why we check airflow on every no-heat call, and replace the fuse and tell you if the vent needs cleaning.

Squealing, thumping or scraping

NoiseUsual cause
High squeal, worse at startupIdler pulley or drum rollers
Rhythmic thump every rotationFlat-spotted drum rollers, or a large item tumbling
Scraping or grindingWorn drum glides or felt seals, a coin or button in the drum seam
Loud hum, drum doesn't turnDrive motor or a broken belt jamming the motor

Won't start or won't tumble

A dryer that does nothing at all often has a blown thermal fuse (many Frigidaire dryers won't run at all when it opens), a door switch problem, or a failed control. A dryer that hums but won't tumble usually has a broken belt or a failing drive motor.

Typical dryer repairs

Typical Repair Example

Dryer dead — no tumble, no heat

Frigidaire electric dryer

Symptom
Dryer would not start at all after a long cycle the day before.
Diagnostic finding
The thermal fuse had opened. The vent was heavily restricted, which is what usually makes the fuse blow in the first place.
Repair performed
Replaced the thermal fuse, checked the high-limit and cycling thermostats, and advised a full vent cleaning before regular use.
Parts involved
Thermal fuse
Result
Dryer ran and heated normally; exhaust airflow improved once the vent was cleared.

Approximate total $245

Typical Repair Example

Gas dryer tumbles but no heat

Frigidaire gas dryer

Symptom
Clothes stayed damp; the dryer ran for the full cycle.
Diagnostic finding
The igniter did not glow. Flame sensor and gas valve coils tested within range.
Repair performed
Replaced the igniter and confirmed ignition and flame over several heating cycles.
Parts involved
Igniter
Result
Consistent heat and normal dry time.

Approximate total $295

Typical Repair Example

Rhythmic thumping while tumbling

Frigidaire electric dryer

Symptom
Repeating thump with every drum rotation.
Diagnostic finding
Flat spots on the drum support rollers and a worn idler pulley.
Repair performed
Replaced drum rollers and idler pulley; inspected the belt and drum glides.
Parts involved
Drum rollers, idler pulley
Result
Quiet operation.

Approximate total $345

Dryer questions

Why does my Frigidaire dryer keep blowing the thermal fuse?

The thermal fuse opens when the dryer overheats, and the usual reason is restricted airflow from a clogged vent, a crushed transition hose or a lint buildup inside the dryer. Replacing the fuse without fixing the airflow means it will blow again. A cycling thermostat or heating problem can also cause it, which is why we test those too.

Do you clean dryer vents?

We check airflow and clean the lint we can reach in the dryer during a repair. A full vent run to the roof or an exterior wall is best handled by a dedicated vent-cleaning service, and we'll tell you if it needs one.

Do you repair gas dryers?

Yes. We diagnose and repair igniters, gas valve coils, flame sensors and the rest of the gas dryer's heat system. If you smell gas, leave the home and contact your gas utility before calling us.

How long does a dryer repair take?

Most dryer repairs, like belts, rollers, fuses, elements and igniters, take about an hour at your home.
