Troubleshooting guide
Frigidaire Dryer Not Heating
If a Frigidaire dryer tumbles but won't heat, check the breaker (electric) or gas valve (gas) first. The parts that most often fail are the thermal limiter or high-limit thermostat — usually tripped by a restricted vent — the heating element, or the gas igniter.

The drum turns but there is no heat. Here is what Frigidaire's own service documentation says about it — what's normal, what you can safely check, and what technicians usually find.
Check this first: it may be normal
- If the dryer door is opened, Start must be pressed again to restart the motor and heater on some models.
Things you can safely check
- Electric: check the breaker. Both halves of the 240 V breaker must be on. Use caution
- Gas: make sure the gas supply valve to the dryer is open.
- Clean the lint filter before every load.
- Check that the outside vent hood opens and air blows out strongly while the dryer runs.
If the problem is still there after these checks, further diagnosis usually needs access to internal parts. A tripped thermal limiter is a symptom of airflow trouble. A technician replaces the failed part and checks the venting so it doesn't happen again.

What may be causing it
Several different failures can produce this symptom. These are the causes Frigidaire documentation and service bulletins point to, roughly from most to least common. Price ranges are typical totals in the Las Vegas Valley, including parts and labor.
One of two house fuses or a half-tripped breaker (electric)
On electric dryers, losing one leg of the 240 V supply lets the drum turn without heat.
Thermal limiter (thermal fuse) or high-limit thermostat open
These safety parts open from overheating, usually caused by poor airflow. The vent problem must be fixed too.
Typical repair: thermal fuse / high-limit thermostat — $180–$280
Gas valve closed or no gas supply (gas)
Check the supply valve, the LP tank or the utility service.
Restricted vent or lint buildup
Poor airflow trips safety limits and stops heat.
Heating element (electric)
An open element leaves the dryer cold.
Typical repair: heating element (electric) — $180–$390
Igniter or gas valve coils (gas)
A weak igniter or failed coils keep the burner from lighting or staying lit.
Typical repair: igniter (gas) — $180–$330
Clues that narrow it down
- Electric — points toward: one of two house fuses or a half-tripped breaker (electric); heating element (electric).
- Gas — points toward: gas valve closed or no gas supply (gas); igniter or gas valve coils (gas).
- Yes — points toward: thermal limiter (thermal fuse) or high-limit thermostat open; restricted vent or lint buildup.
- No, it stopped suddenly — points toward: heating element (electric); igniter or gas valve coils (gas); thermal limiter (thermal fuse) or high-limit thermostat open.

Error codes linked to this problem
These codes appear on specific Frigidaire control platforms. The same code can mean something else on another model, so check your appliance type and model.
- E5 — Outlet temperature sensor (thermistor) open or shorted; heater and motor stop. (Frigidaire dryers matching the 2018 top-load washers (FFRE/FFRG4120 and FLVE/FLVG families))
What Frigidaire service bulletins say
Frigidaire publishes technical bulletins for technicians when a problem is common on certain models or serial ranges. These apply to the models they list:
- Door open (DO) error and/or E66, no heat, from an open thermal limiter. The thermal limiter can open because of insufficient airflow or a restricted exhaust; installation and venting are verified first, then the limiter is replaced with a higher-rated one. (Frigidaire service bulletin LN1304)
- Laundry center gas dryer not heating, open thermal limiter or thermostat condition. The felt seal stapled to the heater pan can face inward, letting hot air escape between the heater pan and drum; that can cause poor performance or an open thermal limiter. The felt is re-dressed outward and the limiter replaced. (Frigidaire service bulletin LN1601)
- Laundry center gas dryer felt seal folded inward (recall service flash). Labeled by the manufacturer as a recall service flash: on listed gas laundry centers the heater-pan felt seal may be folded inward, which can create an undesirable airflow condition or lint accumulation. Owners of listed serial numbers should check with the manufacturer about recall service. What you can do: If you own an FFLG4033 gas laundry center, check the manufacturer's recall information for your serial number. (Frigidaire service bulletin LNSF2305)
- E53 on laundry center gas dryers (open in the heating circuit on the neutral side). On these gas dryers E53 is almost never the main control or the motor — it is a wiring or electrical issue: the inlet thermal limiter, heating-system wiring and components, or motor plug pins not fully seated. (Frigidaire service bulletin LNTT233A)
When to call a technician
Frigidaire appliances can use different components and diagnostic logic depending on the model and control platform. Since several different failures can produce the same symptom, the safest next step is to have the appliance professionally diagnosed.
Further testing requires access to energized electrical components and should be performed by a qualified technician.
Gas-system testing should be performed by a qualified service technician.
