Troubleshooting guide
Frigidaire Dryer Takes too Long to Dry
Frigidaire's service documentation says long dry times are almost always an airflow problem: a lint-clogged filter or exhaust vent. Clean the lint filter and check the vent before suspecting the dryer itself.

Clothes need more than one cycle, or the outside of the dryer feels very hot. Here is what Frigidaire's own service documentation says about it — what's normal, what you can safely check, and what technicians usually find.
Check this first: it may be normal
- An electric dryer on a 208 V circuit takes about 20% longer than on 240 V.
Things you can safely check
- Clean the lint filter before every load.
- Check the exhaust duct: at least 4 in. rigid or semi-rigid metal, no more than four 90° bends, and not crushed behind the dryer.
- Make sure the outside vent hood flap opens freely.
- Don't overload the dryer.
If the problem is still there after these checks, further diagnosis usually needs access to internal parts. Vent cleaning fixes most long dry times. If the airflow is good, a technician tests the heat source and the sensors.

What may be causing it
Several different failures can produce this symptom. These are the causes Frigidaire documentation and service bulletins point to, roughly from most to least common. Price ranges are typical totals in the Las Vegas Valley, including parts and labor.
Restricted lint filter or exhaust vent
The manufacturer states that long dry times are almost always caused by an airflow problem.
Moisture sensor dirty or failed
Auto-dry cycles end early if the sensor bars are coated.
Typical repair: moisture sensor — $180–$280
Weak or no heat
See dryer not heating.
Typical repair: heating element (electric) — $180–$390
Clues that narrow it down
- Never or over a year ago — points toward: restricted lint filter or exhaust vent.
- Recently — points toward: moisture sensor dirty or failed; weak or no heat.
- Yes, it gets warm — points toward: restricted lint filter or exhaust vent; moisture sensor dirty or failed.
- Little or no heat — points toward: weak or no heat.

Error codes linked to this problem
These codes appear on specific Frigidaire control platforms. The same code can mean something else on another model, so check your appliance type and model.
- E4 — Humidity (moisture) sensor error — the cycle runs on time instead of sensing. (Frigidaire dryers matching the 2018 top-load washers (FFRE/FFRG4120 and FLVE/FLVG families))
What Frigidaire service bulletins say
Frigidaire publishes technical bulletins for technicians when a problem is common on certain models or serial ranges. These apply to the models they list:
- Lint accumulation in the dryer cabinet, duct, blower or exhaust; long dry times; overheating or scorching. Periodic preventive cleaning of the dryer interior — drum removed, lint cleaned from the base, burner tube (gas) and heat pan — is recommended for these laundry center dryers. When to call a technician
Frigidaire appliances can use different components and diagnostic logic depending on the model and control platform. Since several different failures can produce the same symptom, the safest next step is to have the appliance professionally diagnosed.
Further testing requires access to energized electrical components and should be performed by a qualified technician.
Gas-system testing should be performed by a qualified service technician.
