Frigidaire washer codes by control type
Frigidaire uses several control platforms, and the same code can mean different things on each. Find the section that matches your display, or enter your model number above.
Frigidaire top-load washers with push-button control and digital display (about 2018 on)
How to recognize it: Top-load, push-button panel with Soak, Extra Rinse, Max Fill; single-character codes such as E1, E2, F8, Fd.
- Before filling, these top-loaders make a series of clicks to check the lid lock and do a quick drain — this is normal.
- A load left too wet usually means over-sudsing from non-HE detergent, or a load too small to balance (one or two items).
- For odors the manufacturer recommends running the Tub Clean cycle periodically, using HE detergent in the right amount and drying the interior after cycles.
| Code | What it means | What you can safely do |
|---|---|---|
| C9 | Control board (PCB) failure. | Professional diagnosis recommended. |
| CL | The lid was open more than 20 minutes with Control Lock on. |
|
| E1 | Water not entering, or slow water fill. |
|
| E2 | Water not draining. |
|
| E3 | Lid is open (or the lid lock / board failed). |
|
| E4 | Out of balance during spin. |
|
| E5 | Washer is not level (tub hitting the impact switch). |
|
| F2 | Control board (PCB) failure. | Professional diagnosis recommended. |
| F8 | Water level sensor failure. | Professional diagnosis recommended. |
| Fd | Lid lock failure. | Professional diagnosis recommended. |
Frigidaire FLVW top-load washers (belt-drive, gravity drain)
How to recognize it: Top-load, belt drive; a retractor (small motor with a pull cable) opens the drain valve and shifts the clutch from wash to spin; some versions use a drain pump for up-drain installation.
| Code | What it means | What you can safely do |
|---|---|---|
| E1 | Abnormal water inlet — the water level did not reach the set level within the fill time limit (about 30 minutes on many models). |
|
| E2 | Drainage problem — the tub did not drain completely within the time limit (about 10–15 minutes). |
|
| E3 | Door (lid) left open — the lid magnetic switch does not see the lid closed. |
|
| E4 | Imbalance — the tub repeatedly hits the safety switch or cabinet during spin. |
|
| E5 | Impact switch signal disconnected for more than 2 seconds (tub pressing the switch lever, loose terminal, failed switch or board). | Professional diagnosis recommended. |
| F8 | Water level sensor fault — sensor frequency outside its normal range at power-up; the washer will not run until repaired. | Professional diagnosis recommended. |

Frigidaire laundry centers with knob controls (about 2016 on)
- On these laundry centers error codes are read in diagnostic mode as beeps and as flashes of an LED on the main board inside the cabinet: first digit, a 2-second pause, then the second digit (10 = A … 18 = I).
- Many washer faults pause the cycle and clear by pressing the selector to restart; others need a power-on reset (unplug 5–8 seconds).

Frigidaire laundry centers with Start/Pause LED panels (about 2019 on)
How to recognize it: One-piece laundry center; separate washer and dryer START|PAUSE buttons with red/green LEDs; error codes are blinked on the START|PAUSE LED.
- In diagnostic mode, error codes are blinked on the START|PAUSE LED: red blinks give the first digit, green blinks the second (10 blinks = A … 15 = F); e.g. 4 red then 2 green = E42.
- The last error can be displayed from any cycle position by holding Wash Temp + CANCEL (washer) or Dry Temp + CANCEL (dryer) for 15 seconds.
- If the dryer door has been opened and closed, START|PAUSE must be pressed again to restart the motor and heater.
